2008 1st blog post

January 12th, 2008

I’ve set a goal to use this blog as often as possible. The challenge is trying to keep it professional instead of rambling about a bunch of irrelevant things.

Things are extremely busy. All I do is compute. Website, Websites, Websites! I love it.

Danville seminar a huge success!

June 28th, 2007

June 11th I spoke at a seminar for professional photographers.  A partner of mine invited me to speak there.

My 4 hour presentation on “Successful Website Elements” was a huge success.  I reviewed each members website giving them improvement suggestions and praise.  I also reviewed what it takes to have a successful website and how the photographers could generate more business by using their website as a marketing tool.   I met a lot of great people and managed to pick up a new client, too!

Here’s some of the feedback I recieved:

Anne Grant Photography rated me a 10/10 and commented, “Excellent ideas.  Bob was not only knowledgeable about web design but is an aggressive marketer as well.”

Allen Austin Portrait Design rated me a 9/10 and commented “Excellent presentation.  great info!”

Jack Henley Portrait Design rated me a 10/10 and commented, “Very professional, great information, it was great to get feedback on our own website”

Pat Housden of Housden Photography rated me a 10/10

Leslie Ann mills of Mills Photography rated me a 10/10 and commented, “Great info!”

Zeb Starnes of Zeb Starnes Creative Photography rated me a 10/10 and commented, “Exchange of promotional ideas was FANTASTIC!  Extremely valuable.”

Bob Henderson rated me an 8/10 and commented, “Very informative.”

The future looks bright and I will certainly be on the road at more seminars in 2008.  It’s going to be a busy year…

Visited Williamsburg Lodge #6 in Virginia, saw a 3rd degree

June 28th, 2007

After I spoke at the Danville IPPG Conference Kass and I drove to Williamsburg. We stayed at the Colonial Capital Bed and Breakfast which is owned by Bro. George Hollingsworth. George is also the Worshipful Master of Williamsburg #6.

Thursday night, June 13 2007, I went to the Masonic Lodge. I was examined, found worthy and well qualified, and then got to watch a Virginia 3rd degree. I was very impressed by the Lodge, the brothers, and the history which surrounded the lodge. I really enjoyed seeing the WM’s chair in the Williamsburg Library and then seeing the reproduction in Lodge. Seriously, I was blown away by the history of the Lodge and felt really lucky to be there for the degree work. I think it would be very nice to affiliate with that Lodge. I found the differences in the degree work very interesting. On Friday we went to Busch Gardens and rode all the roller coasters.

Speaking at a professional photographer conference in VA on June 11th, 2007

May 30th, 2007

I was asked by a business partner to give a 4 hour presentation at a conference in June. The conference is being put on by the IPPG, or International Professional Photographers Guild, in Danville, Virginia.

I will be discussing successful websites, internet marketing, and how websites can make a business more successful.

I am very excited for this conference. I have a Lot of work to do. I mean this is a 4 hour presentation, and I need to develop a lot of documentation for a manual I am providing as well. If all goes well these people will pick up a new business package my partner offers the Guild - which includes a professional designed website from you know who ;)

I’ll also be taking my wife on vacation to colonial Williamsburg, VA, as well as Busch Gardens. Since we’re in the area.. we might as well.

Attended a Prince Hall 3rd Degree - May 19, 2007

May 30th, 2007

I attended a Prince Hall 3rd Degree on May 19th.  It was at the PH GL of Mo building which is located off of Olive St. down in the Central West End of St. Louis.
I was greeted by friendly people.  I had to purchase a pair of white gloves because PH Masons wear white gloves when they are in Lodge.

The degree work was impressive.  WM Jeff Carpenter was extremely impressive in bringing in the candidates, and obligating them.  He also delivered the charge and lecture at the end.  He commanded the Lodge like a drill sargeant controls his platoon.  It was utterly impressive.

The 3rd degree was awesome to witness, and I am glad I did.  I was pulled into being a ruffian by a member of the Lodge. I really enjoyed that.  I felt the power of the Fraternity when we all circled around the altar and at once recited the obligation.  It was obvious that although the PH Masons ritual work and story was different.. the dedication and bond they impose on their members is unparalled.

I sincerely look forward to attending more PH degrees, and I hope I can interact with the Brothers more often.  Those Prince Hall guys definitely got it goin on.

Grand Masters Breakfast 2007

April 24th, 2007

I went to the 55th Annual Grand Masters Consecration Breakfast on Sunday.  It was very nice.  I forgot the picture which was presented to Most Worshipful GM Bob Berger (a lodge brother.)  I had to RACE home to get the pic to make it back by presentation time.  I was pulled over by a police officer for running a red light.  He let me go after I explained I “didn’t see it” and was running late with an important presentation piece.  I regret missing the Prince Hall ceremony during the non-denomniational service.  The breakfast was OK.  It was my first time to visit the Scotttish Rite building in St. Louis.  It is without a doubt one of the most beautiful buildings/venues in town.  Dan Smith went with me to the breakfast.

Called Lodge members who aren’t current on dues

April 20th, 2007

I was sitting in our last Lodge meeting when WM Larry Petkovich asked if anyone would followup with the Brothers who were late on their dues and risked being suspended. I didn’t jump at the chance since I have been super busy. I looked around the room after 5 seconds of silence in awe that no one had volunteered. WM Larry said “Bob will you take care of this?” I replied “I’d be happy to, Larry!”

I called a few Brothers last night. Most of the fellas didn’t have working telephone #s. I spoke with Brother Wallace Smith. His wife answered the phone after briefly questioning me what I was calling her husband to. I heard her mention something like they’re probably calling about dues. I aksed Wallace how he was and he hesitantly said OK. After questioning a bit more he divulged that he had cancer and was undergroing chemo. I expressed my sadness to him and told him the Lodge will pray for him. I told him about the benefits the MO Masonic Home has and how he should Always keep them in mind. I told him that I was calling about dues but it would be the Lodges pleasure to pay them considering Wallace had other stuff going on.

It was an absolute pleasure to talk to this Brother and it really hits home to what the Masonic Fraternity does and how deep it spans. I’ve never met this man before and he is at least 3x my age.. yet we spoke as if we were best friends, even talking about geneaology and my last name. I will tell the Masonic Home about him and I am sure they will followup to see if there is anything the Fraternity can do to help. It made me feel good to call this Brother.

Only 30 more left on the list to call.
